Broadcast journalist Ted Failon revisits the security warehouses where confiscated smuggled goods are stored, and some even left to rot in order to check if the government has acted on the problem that was exposed in ABS-CBN’s “Failon Ngayon” early this month.
Ted had earlier sought action from Bureau of Customs commissioner Ruffy Biazon about the problem of overstaying cargoes in the country’s ports wherein impounded or seized goods have not been disposed.
The case of overstaying cargoes is only one of the major exposes that “Failon Ngayon” has aired in recent weeks that prompted government action on the problems affecting the public.
This Saturday, Ted reviews the problem of vintage bomb explosions that had claimed the lives of unknowing victims.
“Failon Ngayon” earlier revealed two incidents of vintage bomb explosions in January. The first one happened in Taytay Rizal, where Alex Carbongco was killed when he hammered what he thought was scrap that turned out to be a vintage mortar bomb. The second one occurred in Taguig where one vintage mortar bomb exploded when it was brought to a welding shop and killed four people.
And lastly, Ted checks if the government’s administrative order has been implemented effectively to stop mining operations by SR Metals Inc. in Agusan del Norte that has not only destroyed the environment but caused health hazards to those living in the area.
In February, “Failon Ngayon” reported the on the plight of 70 families over the unfulfilled promises of SR Metals to provide concrete homes, water supply, and electricity in exchange for their relocation to give way to the company’s mining operations. And according to a report by the Local Governance Performance Management System, (LGPMS), the common problems affecting the residents’ health include acute respiratory infection, diarrhea, parasitism at skin infections.
