“Eat Bulaga!” has become a part of every Filipino household. We’ve watched them evolve from its segments down to the growth in number of the hosts.
This July, the whole Dabarkads family celebrates their 38th anniversary in the entertainment business. Their secret to the unending success?
The mainstay hosts shared their thoughts as to why the program still exists after having to go through different generations.
“Eat Bulaga! is simply the extension of our homes,” Joey said in an interview with PEP. He is a member of the formidable trio “Tito, Vic, and Joey” with fellow hosts Tito and Vic Sotto.
The three joined forces in keeping each Filipino lunchtime in good vibes and they are still successful in doing so despite their age and having to cope with the current trends.
Vic acknowledged the effort of the brains behind “Eat Bulaga” for their concepts always click with the masses’ taste.
“Credit goes to the think tanks of the show, the writers, the staff, and of course our producer, Mr. Tuviera.
“When we were starting, [I thought] it’s just a new show.
“I never thought we would reach this far,” he said.
The show already produced over 300 segments in those years. A few of the notable ones were “Little Miss Philippines,” “That’s My Boy,” “Super Sireyna,” “Laban O Bawi,” “Taktak Mo o Takbo,” “Pinoy Henyo,” “Juan for All, All for Juan,” and “Kalyeserye.”
The secrets
The hosts believe that the program stays because of its constant reinvention and keeping up with the current. They always aim to be closer to their audience that’s why they bring them not just quality entertainment but joy that is for all ages.
“We’ve been through seven presidents and counting.
“We’ve been to three different networks (RPN 9, ABS-CBN and GMA-7), dapat kasali lagi ang audience.
“Hindi naming ilalayo ang sarili namin.
“Dapat connected kami sa masses… sa viewers. Kailangan one of them ka, kailangan maabot ka,” Joey relayed.
Also, the family has a strong bond that is very evident if you watch them everyday. They have a special connection to each other that is built on foundation of time and passion.
They make everyone feel a sense of belonging to the group.
Vic shared that in those 38 years all they did was mostly fun and it didn’t feel so much like work at all. Plus, they get to help their wide audience through the various segments.
“Sabi nga ni Tito Sen, ‘It’s a public service show in the guise of entertainment.”
The program will hold a month-long celebration for this remarkable milestone.
