- Every showbiz neophyte must go through the learning process in the industry.
- For one, they must be able to take all the intrigues that come with their profession as they are now considered a ‘public property’.
- If you’re too sensitive to criticism, showbiz clearly isn’t for you. You have to learn how to take constructive criticism.
Kapuso actress Sanya Lopez shares her struggles when she was starting in showbiz. She relates that a director cussed her because she wasn’t able to deliver what was needed for a particular scene. She understands that such things happen and everyone had to really go through that, it’s sort of every showbiz aspirant’s ‘baptism of fire.’
Sanya is grateful that she’s been through a lot in showbiz early on, because she’s able to appreciate what she does and it has molded her into who she is now.
Kapuso star Sanya Lopez recalls how she began with showbiz: “Namura din ako ng director. Pero ok lang ‘yun. Kumbaga, napagdaanan po talaga ‘yun. Siguro talagang ibinigay sa akin ito nang hindi madali bago ko makuha ‘yung kung ano ba yung dapat para sa akin.” She says she didn’t take them personally. “It was all part of the job. Sa dami ng iniisip at iniintindi ng isang director, pwedeng nagkataon lang na ako yung nagpainit sa ulo niya nung time na yun.”
After her acting stint in the hit fantasy series, “Encantadia,” Sanya feels grateful and overwhelmed to be given a new lead role with GMA 7’s afternoon soap ‘Haplos’ which is set to air on the Kapuso network beginning July 10.
“Before I started ‘Encantadia,’ wala pong nakakakilala pa sa akin,” she relates. “Kaya sobrang grateful po ako sa show na ‘yun kasi ngayon, when I’d go out, may nagpapa-picture, may nagpapa-autograph na, ganyan.”
As Sanya looks back on her humble beginnings, she mentioned it was actually the late Master Showman, German “Kuya germs” Moreno who discovered her and her elder brother, Jak Roberto’s potentials. “I remember guesting on their show, “Walang Tulugan” as I tagged along with my brother,” she said.
It must be serendipity, but while then 16-year-old Sanya was silently sitting in a corner, the late Kuya Germs came up to her and his brother introduced her to him. “Parang nu’ng time na ‘yun, Kuya Germs was just observing me.”
Sanya soon learned that showbiz isn’t all about glamour and fame. You have to pay dearly for everything. Opportunities are something you have to work hard for because they don’t simply fall into your lap. Determined and passionate about her craft, Sanya is bent on fulfilling her dream on becoming an actress. “Parang mas na-inspire ako nung time na ‘yun. Sabi ko, ‘Andito na si Kuya. Kailangan, pasukin ko na rin ito, kung ano’ng ibibigay sa akin [projects].”
She started doing bit roles and as an extra without speaking lines. “Dumaan ako talaga sa pagiging extra…Nakisaling-pusa na rin ako sa maraming shows. Naranasan ko na rin na hindi papasukin sa tent [referring to the lounge area for artists during on-location shoots or tapings for a certain show or film].
Her early exposure in showbiz as an extra allows her to appreciate the hard work that each staff and crew gives in order to create a good teleserye. “Kaya ngayon kapag may nakikita akong extra, kung puwede sana yung ginagawa sa mga artista, ganun din ang ginagawa sa extra.”
“Kasi tao rin naman ‘yan e, dapat pantay-pantay. Kasi nga naranasan ko ‘yung ganun. Lahat naman nag-effort.”
Sanya also emphasized that it takes passion and grit to be able to last in this industry. For her, the biggest break she had was when she landed the plum role as Sang’gre Danaya in the remake of “Encantadia.”
The fantaserye has opened a lot of doors for her. It paved the way for big breaks and other opportunities that she had been praying for.
In her new TV soap, “Haplos” she will still be paired with her “Encantadia” leading man, Rocco Nacino. As of now, the 20-year-old Kapuso actress is still couldn’t believe in her luck. She says that her patience and hard work have truly paid off.
“Sobrang blessed ako. Hindi ako nagsisisi kung anong pinagdaanan ko. Ang dami ko kasing natutunan dahil doon. Siguro kung hindi ko ‘yun pinagdaanan, baka iba yung attitude na meron ako ngayon at baka wala akong pakielam kung anong nararamdaman ng mga maliliit na tao na mahalaga rin sa industriya na ito.”
She says she’s made to go through all sort of things for her to remain humble and keep her feet firmly planted on the ground. With such passion, determination and with the right attitude, there’s no way for Sanya Lopez to go but stardom.
