- Famous Filipino filmmakers Brillante Mendoza and Lav Diaz complete the members of The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences
The men behind the successful “Ma Rosa” and “Ang Babaeng Humayo” reached the attention of the people from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, the organization that produces the Oscars.
Filipino filmmakers Brillante Mendoza and Lav Diaz along with 772 others from 57 countries complete the list of members included in The Academy’s “Class of 2017.”
Mendoza expressed his surprise over the good news. He said that he didn’t know how exactly they got in but he’s really excited to work with Lav in the international scene.
“I don’t know. I have no idea. I just got an e-mail from them, got an e-mail inviting me. So I don’t know kung paano ka mapipili,”
“I’m happy… Siyempre kahit paano, mayroon tayong representation. May representation din ang Pilipinas, hindi lang isa, kung hindi dalawa pa.”
He eyes a future where more and more Filipino directors get recognition for their amazing work.
“Of course I am thankful, pero sana darating din ‘yung panahon na hindi lang tayo ‘yung magre-represent kung hindi ma-recognize din ‘yung pelikula natin… Na magkaroon tayo ng prestige di lang dahil nae-entertain tayo kung hindi nakikita din ‘yung message behind each film na ginagawa natin,” he said.
