Actress and TV host Kim Chiu could not hold back her tears during a mall show in Cebu on Saturday, March 16, as she addressed the recent backlash and boycott calls against her upcoming movie, ‘My Love Will Make You Disappear’, co-starring Paulo Avelino.
A viral video from the event captured Kim tearing up while speaking in Bisaya, expressing gratitude to her supporters and reflecting on her journey in the entertainment industry.
“Naku, sorry talaga naiyak ako,” she said after performing on stage.
Seeing some fans in the crowd also moved to tears, she added:
“Naku, umiyak din sila.”
The mall show held a special meaning for Kim as she recalled auditioning for Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) in the same location 19 years ago—a moment that changed her life and catapulted her into stardom.
“Dito ako nag-umpisa. Dito ako nag-audition sa PBB. Nakatambay ako doon sa likod at doon bumalik lahat ng memories.”
Realizing how long she had been in the entertainment industry, Kim became more emotional.
“Naku, 19 years na pala akong artista.”

Kim then opened up about the recent controversies surrounding her, particularly the calls to boycott her movie after she was accused of making a political remark against former President Rodrigo Duterte.
The controversy stemmed from Kim using the term “dasurv” during an episode of ‘It’s Showtime’. Some Duterte supporters misinterpreted the word as a mockery of Duterte’s arrest by the International Criminal Court (ICC), sparking backlash on social media.
This led to a viral photo where Kim’s face was removed from a bakeshop advertisement, further fueling the controversy.
“Tapos, ibash-bash kaagad. ‘Di naman totoo. Tapos sasabihin agad ‘di na raw panonoorin ang pelikula.”
She also admitted feeling hesitant about pushing through with her mall show due to the negativity.
“Sa totoo lang, natakot rin ako dahil mall show kasi. ’Di naman siguro ako i-fail ng aking mga kababayan. Sabi nila huwag na tayo magpunta dito. Pero sige punta pa rin!”
Despite the criticism, Kim expressed her gratitude to fans who continue to support her.
“Maraming salamat. Pasensiya na talaga dahil nag-nostalgia ako. Pero kakanta pa ako ng isa. Okay lang sa inyo?” she said, choosing to move forward positively.
Kim had previously spoken out about the issue, clarifying that she was merely reading a scripted spiel on ‘It’s Showtime’ and that it had no political intent.
She urged critics to stop spreading misinformation and to refrain from dragging her into political controversies.
