Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla recently shared the one firm condition she placed before marrying actor and politician Robin Padilla.
In an interview with Boy Abunda on ‘Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,’ the television host and celebrity mom opened up about the boundaries the couple agreed upon when they started their relationship in 2010.
As a Muslim, Robin is allowed to have multiple wives under his faith, which permits up to four. However, Mariel made it clear early on that she had her own expectations.
For Robin, two aspects of his life remained “untouchable” in their marriage, according to Mariel. “His untouchables were Mindanao and his children,” she shared, noting her husband’s deep commitment to his family and the southern region of the Philippines.
“So I’ve never interfered with those,” Mariel said, explaining that Robin’s charitable efforts and close bond with his children were areas she chose not to influence.
Mariel’s only condition in return? That she would be the only wife in his life. “Ako, I only [have] one condition. It can only be me,” she emphasized.
Since their wedding on August 19, 2010, Robin has honored this promise, a commitment Mariel appreciates. “He’s working very, very hard to keep that promise,” she said.
The couple has two daughters, Isabella, 8, and Gabriela, 5, who complete their family.
