Singers Katrina Velarde and Jessica Villarubin proudly revealed that they’ve undergone cosmetic enhancements and are not shy about it, calling themselves “proud retokadas.”
In a candid interview on ‘Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,’ the two powerhouse singers addressed their decisions to enhance their appearances and how it has positively impacted their careers and self-confidence.
Katrina, widely known as the ‘Suklay Diva,’acknowledged that denying the obvious changes in her appearance would be futile.
“First of all, halata naman po,” she said, referencing older photos of herself. She shared that the procedures, which started as sponsorships, have become part of her image, particularly in the highly visual entertainment industry.
“Ang tao ngayon, mas nanonood na sila, hindi na sila nakikinig,” Katrina noted, pointing out that appearance plays a significant role in gaining support from audiences.
Meanwhile, Jessica Villarubin, the champion of ‘The Clash Season 3,’ opened up about her struggles with bullying because of her looks, which contributed to her decision to undergo enhancements. “Growing up, I was bullied talaga… ‘Walang star quality,’” she said, recounting the harsh criticisms she faced before her transformation.
Both Katrina and Jessica explained that their procedures helped them feel more confident, especially when performing in public. Katrina specifically mentioned having surgery on her nose and getting non-surgical fillers in her chin and longer lashes, while Jessica highlighted the drastic changes in her face, which she says helped her overcome insecurities from years of bullying.
The singers emphasized that there’s nothing wrong with cosmetic surgery, especially when it boosts one’s confidence and helps them perform better in their careers as artists. Their openness reflects a growing acceptance of aesthetic enhancements in the entertainment industry, where public perception often influences personal decisions.
