As he would every weekday, broadcast journalist Ted Failon reported for boardwork at 8am last March 31 for his program “Failon Ngayon” on DZMM radio and TeleRadyo. The only – and big – difference in his routine that day was he and co-anchor DJ Chacha were not delivering and discussing the morning’s biggest news and issues inside a radio booth. Instead, they are in the heart of Brgy. San Dionisio in Parañaque City, face-to-face with the station’s loyal listeners and viewers in the community.
Ted and Chacha were there for the fourth leg of “DZMM Kapamilya Day,” the AM radio station’s latest offering that will tour different barangays in Metro and Mega Manila to bring joy and public service to Filipinos in celebration of the 10th year of DZMM TeleRadyo on television.
Julius Babao and Bernadette Sembrano’s “Lingkod Kapamilya sa DZMM” kicked-off the caravan last March 10 at Barangay Sta. Ana, Pateros, whose residents were able to air their concerns, and benefited from DZMM TLC’s medical mission.
A major part of “DZMM Kapamilya Day” is to bring a DZMM program to a barangay and air it live via satellite. This allows the anchors to bond and interact with more Kapamilyas, and focus on the specific concerns in their communities.
“Dos Por Dos” partners Anthony Taberna and Gerry Baja gamely listened to sentiments of residents at Brgy. 162, Pasay City over chichirya in front of a local sari-sari store last March 17. Meanwhile, in the event’s third leg at Brgy. Molino 2, Bacoor, Cavite last March 24, “Pasada Sais Trenta” anchors Karen Davila and Vic Lima tackled the traffic problems of the province, and helped provide immediate solutions by organizing a sit-down between the local government, the Cavite Road Safety Division, and local PUV drivers.
“Pumunta tayo dito para makialam at tumulong na makarating sa mga kinauukulan sa provincial and even national level (ang problema ng mga tao dito sa trapiko). Kaya kami sa DZMM ay umaasa na sana magpatuloy ang DZMM Kapamilya Day mula dito sa Luzon hanggang sa Visayas at Mindanao,” said Vic de Leon Lima.
DZMM’s bonding with the people would continue off the air, as it conducted a special program in every community with Zumba sessions and parlor games led by “Mismo” anchor Ahwel Paz. Moreover, various public service activities were held like medical mission and livelihood seminars. To add excitement, residents celebrating birthdays were given a special treat and raffle prizes were drawn.
“Importante na makita natin sila at malaman ang problema nila at malaman nila na mahal natin sila,” according to Karen Davila.
DZMM will continue bringing the Kapamilya brand of genuine public service and heartfelt ‘malasakit’ to Filipinos with “DZMM Kapamilya Day” heading to more barangays until June.
