WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RETINAL, RETINOL, RETINOID AND RETINALDEHYDE
Retinoid is an umbrella term for the various Vitamin A derivatives used in skincare, however, not all Retinoids are created equal. Potency depends on how many steps they require to convert into Retinoic acid, which correlates to the beneficial results seen on skin. Fewer conversion steps equals a stronger retinoid.
Retinaldehyde (Retinal) only takes one conversion step, making it the closest to prescription-strength.
Retinol requires two conversions.
Retinyl Palmitate needs three conversions and so on for other Retinoids, reducing in potency as the conversion steps increase.
IS THE CLINICAL PRO RETINALDEHYDE TREATMENT FOR ADVANCED RETINOID USERS ONLY?
No, while other options in our line may be more suitable for those new to retinoids, if your primary concerns include lines, wrinkles, rough/bumpy texture plus blemish and pore congestion issues, the CLINICAL PRO Retinaldehyde Treatment is a great solution. Keep in mind that higher concentration retinoids can be irritating (for some) so it’s important to start slowly, gradually increasing your usage over several weeks. Begin by applying retinoids once or twice a week, and then increase the frequency as your skin tolerates it. You can also do a skin patch test before applying to larger areas to test for sensitization.
