MICECON 2024, the premier conference for the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) sector in the Philippines, concluded successfully at the SMX Convention Center Clark from July 10 to 12, 2024.
The event brought together key industry leaders, stakeholders, and experts to discuss and strategize the future of the MICE sector in the country. SMX Convention Center Clark, as the official venue partner, showcased its pivotal role in the expanding MICE industry through a series of insightful sessions, networking opportunities, and exhibitions highlighting the latest trends and innovations.
The MICE industry in the Philippines is on an upward trajectory, bolstered by the country’s strategic location, rich cultural heritage, and strong government support. Major cities like Manila, Cebu, and Davao are increasingly becoming popular destinations for international conferences and exhibitions. The construction of new convention centers and hotels, as well as expansions of existing facilities, underscore the sector’s potential. High-profile events such as the ASEAN Summit and various international trade fairs have positioned the Philippines as a leading host for large-scale events.
Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Frasco emphasized the importance of infrastructure in promoting the Philippines as a top MICE destination. “One of the greatest challenges in bringing tourists, delegates, and travelers to conventions is infrastructure. And that is why our president has directed collaborations and convergences among our fellow government agencies to vastly improve infrastructure and connectivity,” Secretary Frasco said.
SMX Convention Centers are at the forefront of this growth, operating eight branches nationwide including SMX Manila, Megatrade Hall, SMX Aura, SMX Clark, SMX Olongapo, SMX Bacolod, Sky Hall Seaside Cebu, and SMX Davao. The organization is also set to expand further with the opening of the SMX Convention Center Cebu in South Road Properties, Cebu City, by the fourth quarter of 2026. The new facility will feature a gross floor area of 40,879.40 square meters and a gross leasable area of 24,212.74 square meters.
Michael Albaña, Vice President and General Manager of SMX Convention Center, highlighted the significance of MICECON 2024. “The success of MICECON 2024 at SMX Convention Center Clark demonstrates our commitment to support and collaborate with the government’s initiatives in elevating the MICE industry in the Philippines. We are dedicated to providing world-class facilities and services that meet the evolving needs of our clients and partners,” Albaña said.
