Olympic gymnast Carlos Yulo has expressed his desire to move past the ongoing public discussion about his family’s personal issues, focusing instead on his athletic achievements and the unwavering support of his girlfriend, Chloe San Jose.
In a recent interview with ’24 Oras,’ Yulo was asked about his reaction to his mother Angelica Yulo’s public statements regarding their family’s private matters. The athlete made it clear that he has already forgiven his parents and is no longer interested in discussing the issue.
Yulo, who recently represented the Philippines at the Paris 2024 Olympics, redirected the conversation towards the achievements of Filipino athletes, expressing his pride in their dedication and perseverance.
Yulo also took the opportunity to acknowledge the crucial role his girlfriend, Chloe San Jose, has played in supporting him through the ups and downs of his career.
When asked by veteran broadcaster Mel Tiangco about the impact Chloe has had on his life, Yulo replied, “Naalagaan po ang mental health ko and well-being ko po. Mas nakilala ko po sarili ko personally. Through ups and downs po, andoon po talaga si Chloe. May mga time na nahirapan kami and we’re really grateful na hindi niya ako sinukuan sa pangarap naming dalawa.”
He continued, “Right now, sobrang thankful po ako sa kanya, sobrang thankful ako kay God na ipinakilala ako sa kanya. Grabe po ‘yung suporta na natanggap ko and tiwala and pagmamahal po na binigay niya sa akin.”
Looking ahead, Yulo mentioned that he and Chloe plan to focus on their personal lives and take time to celebrate after the intense efforts they put into preparing for the Paris Olympics.
“Magfo-focus po kami sa personal life namin and magse-celebrate po dahil grabe po ‘yung pinagpaguran and pinaghirapan. It’s time to celebrate po,” Yulo said.
He also hinted at continuing his gymnastics career, noting that he will need to adjust his training for the coming year due to upcoming changes in the scoring system.
“Mag-iiba na po kasi ang total points next year [kaya] ayun po ang pag-aaralan namin and kailangan ko pong mag-adjust, so I have to really look things na po ‘yung mga gagawin ko for the next year,” Yulo concluded.
