Jennylyn Mercado’s absence at the GMA Gala 2024 left many fans puzzled, especially since her husband, Dennis Trillo, attended the event alone.
The Kapuso actress was notably missing from the red carpet, raising questions among attendees and online followers.
The star-studded event took place on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the Manila Marriott Grand Ballroom in Newport, Pasay City. While numerous Kapamilya stars and several Kapuso stars without current contracts were present, Jennylyn’s absence stood out.
On Monday, July 22, 2024, Jennylyn’s hairstylist, Bianca Anne Vergara, took to Facebook to clarify the reason behind the actress’s absence. Vergara revealed that Jennylyn was indeed prepared for the gala and had even participated in a photoshoot in her gown. However, an emergency involving her eldest son, Alex Jazz, who fell ill with a fever, kept her from attending.
Vergara shared a photo of Jennylyn in her gala gown and explained, “Eto dapat yun oh kasado na eh! Baka pwede i-rewind ang GMABall. She was supposed to attend GMABall in fact ready na kaming lahat, but sadly nagka-emergency si Jazz (anak na panganay) nagka-trangkaso. So as parents, mas naging priority lang nila ang mga anak nila kaya di naka-attend ang Ultimate Star natin. At sana po maintindihan na lang natin yung nangyari, bawi na lang kami next year. Our Ultimate Star Jennylyn Mercado.”
Recent rumors had suggested that Jennylyn might be transferring to ABS-CBN, particularly after she was not seen in the new station ID of the Kapuso network.

However, her management quickly dispelled these speculations. On July 2, 2024, her long-time manager, Becky Aguila, issued a statement reaffirming Jennylyn’s loyalty to GMA Network, emphasizing that she remains a “loyal artist of GMA.”
