Mercedes Cabral, who plays “Lena” in the hit action-drama series ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo,’ has faced a wave of mixed reactions due to her effective portrayal of a mistress.
In an interview with TV5 journalist Julius Babao, Mercedes shared her experiences dealing with the intense feedback, which she often finds humorous.
Mercedes, whose character is currently one of the most controversial on prime time, discussed the strong emotions her role has elicited from the audience, ranging from anger to frustration.
When Julius asked about the most memorable reaction she had received, Mercedes recounted a particularly striking comment from someone in her hometown in Bicol.
“Sa Bicol, doon galing ‘yong mom ko. So pumunta kami ro’n, may mga nabisita ako na mga kamag-anak, and then nagulat ako kasi lumabas ako sa Ligao City Now. So may mga comments doon na… natawa ako kasi may mga comments doon na hati eh, may mga masaya na I was there, na nakita nila ako at nakilala, natawa ako do’n sa isang comment na ‘Kinakahiya ka namin na taga-dito ka, kasi nire-represent mo ‘yong mga kabet,'” Mercedes said, laughing.
She also mentioned that some fans have expressed a desire to slap her for her character’s actions, but end up asking for a photo instead. This, she believes, underscores her effectiveness in bringing the character to life.
Netizens have noted that these reactions highlight Mercedes’ skill as an actress, successfully portraying a compelling antagonist.
Mercedes’ performance in ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo’ continues to stir strong reactions, demonstrating her talent and the impact of her role in the series.
