‘Makiling’ star Derrick Monasterio revealed on April 25 that he invested personal funds to prepare for his role in the Kapuso afternoon series, demonstrating his dedication to honing his craft.
In every project, artists undergo rigorous training as part of their preparation for their roles. This typically includes workshops, script readings, combat training, and more.
Portraying Alex Delos Santos, the “protector” of Amira Lirio (Elle Villanueva), Monasterio recognized the importance of being fully prepared to embody his character, even if it meant funding his own workshop.
“Ang dami naming ginawang preparations dito. Nagbayad kami ng sarili naming workshop for this show. Tapos ang dami naming reading, ilang beses kaming nag-read no’n, paulit-ulit,” he shared during the show’s virtual media conference.
Monasterio’s decision to invest in the workshop underscores his dedication to his role. Having previously worked with real-life girlfriend Elle in ‘Return to Paradise,’ the actor emphasized that their focus in their latest project was on their roles rather than on “getting to know each other.”
“Iba na kasi ang focus namin ngayon eh. Talagang nag-focus kami sa show kaya rin siguro lumabas na parang hindi na muna Derrick and Elle, parang dito tayo sa Alex at Amira,” he explained.
His commitment, combined with an incredible cast and production team, has earned ‘Makiling’ a 7.7 rating from AGB Nielsen. The series has also become a trending topic among Kapuso fans, particularly on social media.
As the show approaches its conclusion, fans can anticipate even more intense scenes, airing on GMA Afternoon Prime at 4 p.m.
