Direk Mark looks back to the happy memories of creating the unparalleled youth program which also launched the careers of today’s respected actors in the industry.
As he puts it, “18 years ago, I was given the opportunity to create a youth oriented show for a Saturday afternoon which had a non-existent audience market. With the courage of ignorance, we broke the norms of Philippine TV by doing a light drama-comedy, which was unheard of in the traditional soap dominated 1990’s. We got an inspiration from the fast rising MTV channel in terms of visual treatment and fashion styles. Our 1st season was shaky. T.G.I.S. was branded too “bourgeois” or too upper class for the masa market. But come the 2nd season, it skyrocketed to the TV phenomenon that it was, prompting the rival network to copy our format after a year. Now, with much excitement and bravado from experience, the original director and writer bring back T.G.I.S as Teen gen. Expect a new generation of young stars and T.G.I.S. alumni Bobby and Angelu to bring back youthful family entertainment for both young and not so young who are now parents to teenagers.”
Witness the highs and lows of teenage life as “Teen Gen” premieres on December 16 after Party Pilipinas on GMA.
