What happens when a seasoned writer known for her dry wit and a filmmaker-editor native to young Manila’s creative set go on a series of trips together?
See Asia and its neighboring countries like you never have before with CNN Philippines’ newest travel program, Trippies.
It’s travel sidelined by candid conversations that are as interesting as the sights—expect Trippies to be rife with colorful insights from an unexpected yet infinitely entertaining exchange of thoughts and travel trivia by two of the country’s most creative minds: columnist and best-selling book author Jessica Zafra joins filmmaker and broadsheet editor Pepe Diokno. At Trippies, we lend our eyes and ears—and maybe pick up a thing or two— to their unbelievably smart yet ultimately down-to-earth approach to travel.
The first few episodes have Jessica and Pepe discover the wonders of Beijing, China—sit back as this 30-minute show has us exploring one of Asia’s oldest, busiest cities. Trippies isn’t exactly your glamorous, glossy guide to roaming the world: Jessica and Pepe document their travels for the show as they see it—expect the beauty and the madness of each country unfold before your very eyes at Trippies.
Diokno muses on the adventure that is shooting for Trippies: “Each destination that we go to is like a shock to both forces. Jessica and I are like a weird duo; we’re like fish out of water in every place that we go to and everything is a new experience.” Jessica highlights Trippies’ unique take on a travel program: “Trippies is a show in which we like to immerse ourselves in the culture and try to feel what the locals feel. Instead of going there and just being tourists, we try to pretend that we live there.”
Building on CNN Philippines’ continued mission to tell the story of the Filipino with its knack for storytelling, Trippies zeroes in on the Filipino with an undeniable zest to wander.
Trippies will debut on March 12 and airs every Sunday at 7:30PM on CNN Philippines Free TV Channel 9. Catch the CNN Philippines livestream on cnnphilippines.com/video.
