The cast of the upcoming summer flick ‘G! LU’ admitted on April 17 that they had doubts about whether moviegoers would get to see their movie on the silver screen.
‘G! LU’ was supposed to hit theaters in 2020. Unfortunately, the pandemic hit.
Four years after its supposed initial release, the film has finally made its way into cinemas. But some cast members had doubts, especially since it took four years.
During the film’s media conference at KAO Manila in Newport World Resorts, Derrick Monasterio revealed he and co-star David Licauco frequently discussed its release.
“Kami ni David, lagi. Lagi niya akong mine-message, ‘Bro, ‘yung G! LU ipapalabas pa kaya iyon?’ mga ganoon. Lagi kaming nag-uusap,” shared the actor.
Although he had some doubts, he was glad that the film would be released soon.
Katarina Rodriguez also shared the same sentiment. “G! LU” was supposed to be the project where she could prove to people that she could act.
“Yes, there were a couple of times I messaged Direk, and even Teejay, I’m like, ‘Lalabas pa rin ang movie?’ Kasi ‘yun ang baon ko during the pandemic, having two pregnancies, and hinintay ko talaga para malaman ng mga tao na kaya ko talagang umarte, and that I want to also do this,” she said.
The former beauty queen believes releasing the movie this year, with all of them becoming successful in the industry, is the “perfect timing.”
”I think it’s also a reminder of how we did things, like it’s a first for a lot of us and it the start for a lot of us. As we keep saying, there’s a perfect timing for everything.”
Teejay Marquez also wondered why it took four years for the movie to be released. But with all of them soaring high in their respective careers, he now understands the reason why.
“So nangyayari ‘yun lahat so parang feeling ko, perfect timing talaga ngayon. Naiintindihan ko na kung bakit hindi pa siya naipalabas noon. Hopefully, maging opportunity ito na mapanood ng lahat kasi this is the right timing,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, actors Enzo Pineda and David Licauco did not doubt AVL Productions ever pulling the plug. Pineda believed that the firm was just finding the perfect moment for the movie’s release, and now they have found it.
“Noong una, sobrang excited ako like everybody else. But of course, at the end of the day, a lot of things happened and kami po, tiwala kami kay ALV, our manager and producer, tsaka kay Direk na ilalabas nila ito sa tamang timing.
“Alam naman po natin na sobrang init ngayon ng panahon; nasa 40, 41 na. So I believe that perfect timing itong ‘G! LU’ kasi pampadagdag-init ang pelikula namin,” he said.
From a business perspective, Licauco knew that AVL would have to recuperate. To do that, they have to release the film.
“I think alam ko naman na ipapalabas siya. Number one, siyempre naman si ALV, gumastos siya. So for sure kailangan naman niyang maibalik ang na-invest niya. I think it’s just a matter of timing nga gaya nga ng sinabi nilang lahat,” explained the Pambansang Bae.
Additionally, the Philippines took almost three years to recover from the pandemic. With industries being revived, Licauco agrees that this year is the perfect year for its release.
“Nag-pandemic, 2020, 2021, 2022, ‘di ba? Last year was a busy year for me, so tama lang din naman eh, ‘di ba? Sana panoorin niyo lahat at i-promote ito.”
Now, moviegoers will get to see their “barkada” film in cinemas, starting on April 24.
