Kapuso heartthrob Derrick Monasterio expressed his appreciation for ABS-CBN’s noontime show ‘It’s Showtime’ on April 17, thanking them for providing him with a platform to reach a wider audience.
Monasterio recently made a guest appearance on the Kapamilya program, where he performed John Legend’s ‘P.D.A.’ His appearance quickly became a trending topic on social media.
During the media conference for his upcoming film ‘G! LU,’ the Kapuso actor, who has been in the industry for almost 14 years, admitted to being surprised by the number of Filipinos who were unaware of him and his capabilities.
“Gulat nga ako na nag-trend ako nang hindi ko alam. Pero ang masasabi ko lang is, ang dami pa rin talagang hindi nakakaalam na kumakanta ako. Nakakatuwa lang kasi ‘Showtime’ gave me a platform din. Iba-iba rin talaga ‘yung viewers nila; ‘yung iba first time lang akong makita ganoon, mga solid Kapamilya talaga,” he said.
Moreover, he was pleased to showcase his playful side on the show and was treated like family by the hosts.
“Nakakatuwa kasi nakakapag-guest na kami doon and naipapakita na namin ang kakulitan namin. They are very welcoming na parang magkakilala nang matagal na. Well sina Kuya Vhong nakaka-basketball ko, pero like the others, parang ano talaga, parang family.”
During his appearance on ‘It’s Showtime,’ he also promoted his show, ‘Makiling.’ When asked if the Kapamilya noontime program could help promote their movie’s release, Monasterio responded:
“Actually, you know what, I don’t think they are that strict in promoting Kapuso shows sa Showtime. Kasi I guested there once, and I promoted my shows. Ms. Vice reminded me to, ‘O, promote your All-Out Sundays.’ So I think it’s okay. Kasi ‘yun na nga eh, eto na nga eh, wala na tayong mga network wars ngayon, united na tayo. Sana p’wede na.”
“Tsaka ‘yun nga sabi ni ALV, this is for the movie industry naman eh and lahat naman makikinabang ng lahat ng artista, so hopefully sana wala na.”
‘G! LU’ is a barkada film by Philip King starring Monasterio, Kiko Estrada, David Licauco, Ruru Madrid, Teejay Marquez, and Enzo Pineda. The cast also includes Michelle Dee, Chanel Morales, Katarina Rodriguez, Carl Guevarra, Sophia Senoron, Ali Forbes, and Denver Hernandez.
The film is set to premiere in cinemas on April 24.
