Christian Antolin expressed his gratitude towards GMA Network on March 19 for providing him with a groundbreaking opportunity to challenge gender stereotypes in the entertainment industry.
Antolin began by thanking the network, the production of ‘My Guardian Alien,’ his management at Artist Circle Artist, and Marian Rivera for the chance to play a very different character from his previous roles.
It was the ‘best thing’ for him, especially since he is openly gay in the industry. In the upcoming series, Antolin plays Sputnik, a straight guy, far from his characters in other Kapuso shows.
“This time, sobrang ibang Christian Antolin ang nilatag sa akin. So it’s a straight guy, and very proud po ako sa GMA to be very inclusive,” he said during the show’s press conference at Luxent Hotel in Quezon City.
He is no longer typecast as a gay gossipmonger, which he appreciates.
“Kasi ‘diba usually kapag straight na role, ibibigay straight na lalaki. Minsan kasi kapag straight ‘yung guy tapos gustong gawing gay, ibibigay; minsan hindi ibinibigay sa totoong gay. Pero this time, I think the gender equity is there.”
Antolin realized GMA Network gave the role to him because of his capabilities regardless of his sexuality, making him proud to be a part of the show’s cast.
“So binigay sa iyo ang role regardless of your sexuality kasi alam ng tao na kaya mo. So doon po pinaka-proud ako, and ‘yun po ang best thing na nangyari sa career ko sa GMA, maraming salamat po,” the artist expressed.
‘My Guardian Alien’ is under the direction of Zig Dulay, starring Rivera, Gabby Concepcion, Max Collins, Gabby Eigenmann, and Raphael Landicho.
The show also features Kiray Celis, Arnold Reyes, Tanya Gomez, Tart Carlos, Marissa Delgado, Josh Ford, Caitlyn Stave, Sean Lucas, and Kirst Viray.
Watch Antolin in his first-ever straight-guy role as Sputnik in ‘My Guardian Alien’ coming this April 1.
