We all know how controversial the Joson clan are — a one google away family, likely fact why we don’t need much introduction to her. But with 8 nominations and 3 wins under her name, going behind the lens and carrying quality flicks where she brought our country’s pride, specifically the one that made her a household name in western countries– like her sleeper hit short film Adivino.
I think we could dive a little bit into her life. Although Joson isn’t the fame-chasing type; her impressive body of work aside, admiration to her by Hollywood people, she instead lives privately in Bulacan with her family and occasionally stays at their owned condominium in Makati to quietly write scripts. But still we’re giving you 10 things you didn’t know about the award winning filmmaker, international sensation, an IT girl and sex symbol.
LIBERATION
Unlike many hopeless romantic transsexuals. Joson is very different, she’s nonchalance towards dating men. She’s not a chaser, she’s free-spirited, straightforward, highly protective of her love ones and very fearless. She underwent gender reassignment surgery for herself not for anyone and dubbed as one of the most fascinating transformation ever.
HER FATHER FULLY ACCEPT HER
We all know that not every parents openly embracing their children’s sexual preferences. However Joson’s parents are very supportive of her. Infact her heartwarming video speech at her father’s 71st birthday just recently gone viral on X. Joson’s father passed away last August 2021 due to COVID-19.
My lolo was a guerilla soldier, my dad was an athlete and half of my titos were politicians in Nueva Ecija at may reputation sila na siga. Pero nung nag-out ako sakanila sobra yung pagmamahal nila sakin. Here’s my speech at my late dad’s birthday sesh. Thank you @vicegandako! 🏳️⚧️ https://t.co/CUj3kaO6CC pic.twitter.com/e2VSMQkili

SHE KICK-ASS
After coming out to her family. Joson’s father hired experts to teach her self-defense so she can protect herself against future transphobics. Luckily Joson has never experience discrimination. Instead she was adored due to her feminine presence during transition period. Joson won 4 bronze medals in Taekwondo.
PICKY WITH PROJECTS
She doesn’t like making cheesy concepts, a reason why she preffered to remain freelancer after her historic breakout film fest victory at the age of 19. Joson took herself out from
teleseryes, love team movies and focused doing more gritty world-class quality indie films. No wonder why Adivino had streaming resurgance in America during #MeToo era.
NOT A FLEX TYPE OF PERSON
After her historic MMFF nod. Joson gained 8 nominations and 3 wins under her belt, all from different projects and festivals such in PMPC Star Awards, FAP, International Guadalajara Film Festival (Official Selection) and more. Her success were also celebrated by her schools. Inspite of that she remain very humble unless she shared throwbacks, or reporters digged some ages ago photos. A reason why she’s not a flex type of person is because of her admiration with Mr. Miyagi from the Karate Kid franchise, her most favorite line by the late Oscar Nominated Actor Pat Morita is “If Karate used defend plastic metal trophy, Karate no mean nothing”.
HER FUR BABIES CUTE NAMES
Joson love taking good care of animals. She got 4 dogs and 2 cats, most of her pet were named after her favorite characters in films and TV shows. Like her fan-favorite persian cat, Khaleesi. The adorable cat was named after Emilia Clarke’s iconic character in Game of Thrones and let’s not forget when Maisie Williams were one of the celebrities who surprises Joson during her virtual interview in L.A last October 2021.

SURVIVED DANGEROUS PEOPLE
Celebrities have to get used to a lot of unwanted behaviors and occurrences from the people around them. From fans to uhm –terrifying creepy stalkers. Joson faced a lot of danger, began from 2015 with Dominican alumnis to random people she’s not familiar with. Yikes. Few were trolling her, while also copying everything she does. But Joson is not the typical anyone can victimize. She strike back. Thanks to authorities for vaulting evidences, Joson is now secured.
SHE’S A METHOD ARTIST
Just like Tim Burton and James Cameron. Before Joson write her flicks down she wants to experience everything first through experimental and deep research. For example in Pagari she hang-out with muslim kids who are victims of parental abuse, examined how the social media bashing work. While in Adivino she learned proper use of tarot cards.
ALMOST BECAME A MAINSTREAM ACTOR
Before her broadway accolades stints. She was first discovered by the talent manager Becky Aguila and another Star Magic road manager under Mr. M’s wing. Joson almost landed a role in ABS-CBN’s upcoming teen-romance teleserye at that time as the leading lady’s funny bestfriend. Unfortunately her dad didn’t like the idea.
