GMA Network’s afternoon lineup appears to be losing its shine, as recent ratings have shown a decline compared to previous weeks.
Analyzing the most recent ratings report from the Nielsen NUTAM People survey, it’s evident that Kapuso afternoon prime has experienced a drop in ratings, indicating that viewers may have reached a saturation point.
On Monday, September 18, the top-rated afternoon drama, ‘Abot Kamay Na Pangarap (AKNP)’ achieved a rating of 10.4 percent, securing the 5th position on the overall rating chart. Its following program, ‘Magandang Dilag,’ earned a rating of 9.4 percent, placing 6th in the rankings. Meanwhile, ‘The Missing Husband’ obtained a rating of 6.2 percent, ranking 9th on the leaderboard.
Moving to Tuesday, September 19, AKNP maintained its 5th position with a rating of 10.6 percent, followed by ‘Magandang Dilag’ with a 9.5 percent rating in the 6th spot, and ‘The Missing Husband’ registering 5.9 percent, placing 9th in the rating chart.
These afternoon dramas had previously consistently achieved ratings averaging 11 percent or higher, even outperforming their primetime counterparts with double-digit ratings.
On Friday, August 25, AKNP achieved an impressive rating of 12.7 percent, claiming the number 1 spot and surpassing ’24 Oras,’ which had a 12.5 percent rating at number 2. This marked AKNP’s highest weekday ranking since its debut in September 2022.
On the same date, ‘Magandang Dilag’ also achieved a notable milestone by scoring 11.8 percent, surpassing ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo’s’ 11.2 percent.
The predecessor of ‘The Missing Husband,’ ‘The Seed of Love,’ also posted impressive ratings of 11.0 percent, tying with ‘Voltes V: Legacy.’
Given this downward trend in ratings for these Kapuso afternoon dramas, it remains to be seen whether this marks the beginning of a further decline or if they will bounce back to their previous double-digit ratings. Time will tell.
