Actress Kathryn Bernardo has emphasized the need to recognize that celebrities are not perfect individuals. She shared this perspective during a grand media conference held on August 23 to promote her upcoming Star Cinema movie, ‘A Very Good Girl.’
The movie’s trailer hints at Kathryn’s character, Philo, having a risky and rebellious side. When the entertainment press asked if she ever experienced a rebellious phase in her life, she explained that she has been aware of the importance of behaving appropriately since a young age due to her status as a public figure.
“Growing up hanggang ngayon, aware ako na maraming nakatingin sa [akin]. [I] have to be good. I have to do this and that, especially, ’yong mga bata, gagayahin kung ano ’yong makita sa’yo,” stated the Kapamilya star.
Nevertheless, she consistently conveys the message that celebrities, just like everyone else, are not flawless and are prone to making mistakes.
“But then, every time may press con and they ask me this, I always answer na, ‘Hindi porke artista perfect na. Hindi porke sinabi n’yong role model [nangangahulugan nang] wala kaming imperfections and we can’t commit mistakes and we can’t learn from our mistakes,’” she stressed.
Kathryn has made sure to communicate this idea to her fans, urging them not to idolize her because of any perceived “perfection.”
“Siguro wala masyadong pressure sa akin because, even the fans, I always tell them na, ‘Wag n’yo akong i-idol dahil ‘perfect’ ako dahil hindi talaga. Promise,’” Kathryn humorously added.
Regarding her character in the film, she admitted that she couldn’t strongly relate to the negative aspects of Philo’s character.
“So, ’yong sa role na ito ni Philo, siguro ’yong rebellious and very bold character, bago s’ya sa akin,” she acknowledged.
Kathryn revealed that she never went through a rebellious phase because she never felt heavily oppressed in life. Typically, individuals become rebellious when they’ve faced restrictions, deprivations, pain, abandonment, or abuse.
“Siguro ’yan ’yong reason kung bakit meron akong small circle of friends and my family. Because, at the end of the day, pinapa-enjoy nila sa akin ’yong life in general,” she shared.
While she works diligently, Kathryn also believes in the importance of enjoying life and unwinding. This approach helps her avoid burnout, especially given the demanding nature of their profession.
“Para may mabigay pa ako, hindi ako maubos. ’Yon ’yong naging routine ko parati [kasi] ayoko na nape-pressure ako to be good just because I have to be good,” she clarified.
“I want to be good dahil ito, ito ang pagkatao ko. And being good doesn’t mean hindi na ako magsasalita and just following kung anong sinasabi ng lahat ng tao sa akin,” Kathryn emphasized.

She concluded by stating that if people accept her for who she is, she appreciates it. However, she won’t force anyone to conform to their expectations because she is true to herself. She believes she’s at a stage in her life where authenticity matters most.
Kathryn’s upcoming movie, ‘A Very Good Girl,’ in which she shares the screen with Chie Filomeno, Jake Ejercito, veteran actress Dolly de Leon, and others, is set to hit cinemas nationwide starting September 27.
