We examined our today’s Pinoy celebrity twitter millionaires. How can we tell if their Twitter followers are real or fake? We used TwitterAudit to determine how many are real and fake follower accounts. TwitterAudit is a website/app that weighs your account against the ones you follow — and the ones that follow you — in order to determine if your account is genuine or botty. It’s a fairly reliable system for determining an account’s actual influence based on the types of people who follow it, and tools like this are used by marketing agencies as they weigh whether or not sending review units to you would be worthwhile.
For Pinoy celebrities, a big Twitter base can mean the opportunity for big money from sponsored tweets. Just like Anne Curtis with over 4M followers and Vice Ganda with over 2M followers who also use Twitter to promote their endorsements and shows. Those who are considered fake accounts are bots that follow random people in order to make them appear less suspicious when used to artificially inflate the numbers on an account that pays $20 for an extra 10,000 followers.
So here are the Pinoy celebrities with over a million followers – Fake versus Real:
About TwitterAudit.com: Each audit takes a random sample of 5000 Twitter followers for a user and calculates a score for each follower. This score is based on number of tweets, date of the last tweet, and ratio of followers to friends. We use these scores to determine whether any given user is real or fake. Of course, this scoring method is not perfect but it is a good way to tell if someone with lots of followers is likely to have increased their follower count by inorganic, fraudulent, or dishonest means.
