On July 24, actor-musician Ian Veneracion reacted to Lea Salonga’s viral dressing room video.
During the media conference for ‘Ian Veneracion’s live concert at Winford Manila Resort & Casino,’ which LionhearTV covered, Veneracion described himself as straightforward when letting people know his boundaries as an artist.
“Ako naman, very straightforward din naman ako. I only do things that I want to do. If I don’t want to do it, I don’t want to do it. I mean, nobody can force me.”
He also noted how he would’ve responded to fans asking for a photo at an incorrect time.
“So, kung ako, siguro sasabihin ko lang na ‘yun kung tama ang panahon, I’d say sure. Pag hindi tama–there are many instances na hindi siya right time, kunwari, kumakain ako, tapos sasabihin mo sa akin, gusto mo magpa-picture, tapos pwede kong sabihin na maybe later, or when I’m done, I’ll go to you, or something. I don’t know–something like that.”
He then noted that he isn’t apologetic when discussing his boundaries as an artist.
“Pero, I’m very straightforward din when it comes to my boundaries. And, I’m not apologetic about it, kasi we’ve got boundaries naman. And ‘yun lang, magkaintindihan lang kami pareho.”
He then voiced his opinion about privacy, especially for artists in their dressing rooms.
“For example ako sa taping, sa taping ayaw kong papasok sa dressing room kung kahit sino lang kasi siyempre, doon ka nagbi-bihis. Minsan nakahubad ka, nagpapalit ka ng pantalon, so siyempre may privacy rin naman ‘yan. Or pagnatutulog ka, di ba? Ayaw mong pipicturan ka ng habang tulog ka. Kasi ikaw how would you feel kung kapitbahay mo nakapasok ‘yung kamay sa bintana, pini-picturan ka ng tulog ka. That’s so creepy.”
Veneracion clarified that he had not encountered an insistent fan who would barge in on his dressing room.
“‘Yun lang, certain things lang. Which parang common practice naman among people, it’s something we all understand. So wala pa naman ako na-eencounter na hindi ko kayang i-express or kausapin, kasi lahat naman nadadaan sa usapan. If I say okay, sure, pero if I say no, if you get mad or call me whatever, I don’t care. So– I’m just telling you what’s okay and what’s not okay.”
Earlier, a video from a fan of the Tony Award-winner Lea Salonga went viral, wherein the singer-actress was trying to advise the group of Filipino theater-goers to wait in a designated location rather than going into her dressing room.
As for Veneracion, the actor-musician holds a live concert event titled ‘Ian Veneracion Live’ at the Winford Manila Resort & Casino Ballroom on August 12.
The concert event, directed by Vergel Sto Domingo, also features artists such as Marissa Sanchez and Zach Ponce.
