Filipino publisher Black Ink is looking for new storytellers and illustrators to produce a fresh batch of manga and light novels.
An imprint of Precious Pages Corporation – the biggest publishing firm in the country today – Black Ink upgrades your reading experience with creative illustrations and other visuals that will bring your imagination to life.
Having released its first batch of books in 2012, Black Ink produces manga novels with themes of romance, Boys’ Love (BL), action, and drama, as well as manuals on creative writing and manga-style illustrations.
Its titles include bestselling author Gwy Saludes’ trending Twitter series Along Espanya, the feel-good Boys’ Love manga It’s A Labor Date, the action-fantasy story The Simple Life of Jack, the romance series Hello Band Junior volumes 1 to 4, and the instructional manual Manga Crash Course volumes 1 to 3, among many others.
And as Black Ink continues to discover new talents with inspiring tales, the publishing house opens its doors and calls for submission of the following stories:
Boys’ Love Manga
– Story can be a stand-alone or series with either 60 or 120 pages.
Fantasy Manga
– Story can be magically whimsical, strange and supernatural, or a heartfelt and introspective coming-of-age tale, similar to Ghibli movies.
– It can be a stand-alone or series with either 60 or 120 pages.
Light Novels
– Genres could be comedy, romance, action, horror, mystery, fantasy, adventure, science fiction, Boys’ Love (BL), Girls’ Love (GL), and slice of life.
– Manuscript should be between 24,000 to 48,000 words.
Red Ink Light Novel
– Sexy content that can be mixed with the other genres like fantasy, crime, mystery, sci-fi, paranormal, slice of life, comedy, and romance, among others.
– Manuscript should be between 24,000 to 48,000 words.
Submission guidelines
Language: Work must be written in Tagalog or Taglish
Format: Manuscript must be sent via Word file (.doc/.docx); all text in left indent and double-spaced
Font: Calibri, Times New Roman or Arial; size 12 only
The manuscript should include the following:
- Title of the story
- Genre/s of the story (Example: Boys’ Love/Horror)
- Short summary or teaser
- Series proposal (if story is meant to be a series)
If you’re applying as a comic creator, or the writer and illustrator of your story, the following should be submitted:
– Five full body line art of random characters
– Five colored illustrations (book cover type)
– Five pages with chronological paneled illustrations (with tones and effects)
– Five Chibis (colored or gray scale)
A personal bank account is also required for those whose stories have been approved.
Applicants may submit as many as they can before the deadline on August 31, 2023.
The manuscript and resumé must be sent as attachments to Black Ink’s e-mail at blackink@preciouspages.com.ph. For the subject, kindly write ‘Story for Black Ink,’ followed by the title of the story.
