Competition in noon time has been stiffer than ever, as the departure of the iconic TVJ trio, left the new ’Eat Bulaga’ facing the threat of getting relegated to second, among the top noon time shows, in the country.
It’s Showtime continues to climb in ratings, amid the new Eat Bulaga to capture the usual audience of the show, before Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon a.k.a. TVJ, left the four-decade noon time show.
Now topbilled by new hosts, Paolo Contis and Isko Moreno, the new Eat Bulaga immediately showed weaker viewership, as its only managed a 5.2 people rating, according to Nielsen Philippines. That’s still higher than It’s Showtime’s 3.2, but the declining trend in the TAPE Inc-produced show, in the succeeding episodes, seemed to suggest that the high pilot rating was merely a result of people’s curiosity.
Last Friday, June 9, It’s Showtime finally defeated Eat Bulaga in the rating game, posting a 3.7 people rating versus the other’s 3.3. The Kapamilya noon time show was unable to keep its lead on Saturday, posting just 3.1 against its rival’s 4.0. On Monday, June 12, however, It’s Showtime pulled off a major post-shutdown milestone, recording a 4.1 people rating, according to Nielsen Philippines. It erased the record set by the May 6 episode, which coincided the grand finals of Tawag Ng Tanghalan Year 6.
That said, Eat Bulaga, which has added former Manila mayor and defeated 2022 presidential candidate, Isko Morenno, and social media personality, Kimpoy Feliciano, showed signs of recovery, after posting a 4.9 people rating on June 12. It can be noted, however, that it remains lower than the 6-7 average people rating, previously generated by the noon time show.
