On April 4, Kapuso singer Anthony Rosaldo highlighted the benefit of his theater role to his music career.
At the media event with Sparkle GMA Artist, which LionhearTV covered, Rosaldo said his stint in Ang Huling El Bimbo would deepen his appreciation for theater.
“I always challenge myself, everyday gusto ko may ginagawa akong something new. And I always want to experience things na will help me through my career, and after this Ang Huling El Bimbo the musical, I think ‘yung relationship ko and love ko for theater will be much deeper.”
He then discussed the possibility of taking on future roles in theater.
“That’s a possibility that I would consider other roles and other theater plays in the future, and kung international man, I’m not closing my doors also, so kung maganda ‘yung role, why not. And siyempre, doon naman tayo always sa dapat palagi tayong ready and we always challenge ourselves.”
He recalled what inspired him to join a theater production amid the pandemic.
“Nag start ito noong 2020, noong pinalabas ‘yung Ang Huling El Bimbo online. That was kalagitnaan ng pandemic. And noong napanood ko siya, talagang ano ako eh, parang mayroong, something sa akin na parang nakita ko ‘yung sarili ko on-stage na parang bagay ako dito sa role na ‘to.
“And bukod diyan, it is the first time na-apektuhan ako isang theater play, sa isang musical. So naiyak ako doon habang pinapapanood ko siya.”
He also detailed how he auditioned for the Ang Huling El Bimbo.
“Tapos then 2022 came, nag announce sila na magkakaroon daw ng re-run Ang Huling El Bimbo, so they’re looking for new cast, so nagbaka-sakali ako, nag-send ako ng video sa email nila and hindi ko naman ine-expect na makuha.
“Pero siyempre nandoon ‘yung high hopes ko tapos. the day came na nag-send sila ng email na they’re inviting me for a call back. So wala akong idea kung anong ginagawa sa mga theater auditions. So kumanta lang ako ng isang part ng Ang Huling El Bimbo, ‘yung Ang Huling El Bimbo (song). A little part of it lang.”
