On February 8, Kapuso artist David Licauco admitted that he had apprehensions about taking on his role in the romantic drama film, Without You.
At the media conference for the said film, Licauco said he hesitated to do his role in the movie because of its mature themes.
“Noong nabasa ko ‘yung script, nagulat ako na sexy nga siya, and very dramatic. And mature siya eh, so alam ninyo naman, goodboy ako. But then, honestly noong start, medyo hesitant ako to accept the role kasi nga it’s out of my comfort zone.”
He noted that he had things to consider before accepting the role, citing that his mom didn’t initially approve of it.
“Actually, marami akong kinonsider, I’m from a Chinese conservative family. So, number one tinanong ko ‘yung Mom ko kung okay lang ba, actually sabi niya hindi. Pero, siguro, I’m on that point na parang I wanted to parang grow my career.”
He then realized he was at the right age to challenge himself with mature roles.
“But then siyempre, I talked to my manager, and I asked them if he wanted me to do it, tapos ako naisip ko na parang, maybe it’s time, I think I’m in the right age na mag-play ng mga ganong roles na macha-challenge ako kasi these kinds of opportunities doesn’t come often. So sabi ko sige, gagawin ko na lang siya.”
He also detailed how he convinced his family about the value of taking on the role.
“And siyempre pinasok ko ‘yung trabahong ito, and at that point, parang I felt like I needed this, I really wanted to you know, like try this–kasi makakatulong talaga sa career ko.
“So inexplain ko sa Mom ko, sa Dad ko, and pati sa friends ko, tinanong ako kung okay lang, sabi nila, ‘Okay lang lalaki ka naman, eh.'”
He thanked the team behind the romantic drama for helping him with his portrayal.
“Tapos siyempre, with the help of my great director, he really helped me a lot, tsaka si Shaira, sanay na rin naman ako sa kaniya, so I’d like to think that it really went well.”
The romantic drama movie also stars Licauco’s fellow Kapuso star Shaira Diaz.
The film also features Mark Rivera, Casie Banks, Rhiana Pangindian, Dindin Pajares, and Luis Hontiveros.
Under the direction of RC Delos Reyes, the OctoArts Valentine film opens in cinemas nationwide on February 15.
