On February 8, director Malu Sevilla highlighted the difference between FPJ’s Batang Quiapo from its film version.
At the grand media conference for FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, Sevilla clarified that they paid homage to Fernando Poe Jr through the series starring Coco Martin.
“Ang kwento kasi ng Batang Quiapo the film is different from our Batang Quiapo. [This series] is an homage to FP. That is why we wanted to do something like this. Ang similar lang sa film and sa series namin is about a person who wants to change.”
She then described the storyline of the upcoming action-drama as a story of a person trying to change.
“This is the classic story about good and bad, kasi every person has the choice to be good or to be bad. So I think ‘yun ‘yung similarities eh. Kasi I think sa movie din naman ni FPJ, ganon din naman ‘yung tema niya. So ganon din naman ‘yung tema ng show na ito, but it’s a completely different story.”
She then expressed her hopes that Pinoy viewers would appreciate and love their series once it airs.
“It is an homage to FPJ and his body of work, but this is an entirely different story from the creator, Coco Martin, which we hope that people [will] come to love as well.”
As for FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, the Kapamilya series stars Coco Martin and Lovi Poe.
The action-drama also features Irma Adlawan, Cherry Pie Picache, John Estrada, Christopher de Leon, Charo Santos-Concio, and Tommy Abuel.
They also have Mark Lapid, Benzon Dalina, Pen Medina, Dindo Arroyo, Ronnie Lazaro, Marlo Mortel, Karl Medina, Precious Lara Quigaman, Miles Ocampo, Ronwaldo Martin, and many more.
Under the direction of Sevilla, the action-packed premiere of FPJ’s Batang Quiapo airs on February 13 at 8 PM on Kapamilya Channel, A2Z, TV5, iWantTFC, and Kapamilya Online Live on ABS-CBN Entertainment’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.
