“Boy oh boy does it look familiar,” says “Arrow” star Stephen Amell on GMA Network’s upcoming series “Alyas Robin Hood.”
After sharing the video clip on Facebook showcasing a new Robin-Hood-inspired show on GMA Network with a Flushed Face emoji on Tuesday (August 30), Stephen Amell on his verified Facebook Page with over 5.2M followers, finally gave a comment on the video teaser of “Alyas Robin Hood” when asked by a certain Maria Anngria Hall.
He replied, “I mean… I have no idea what it is and frankly, I don’t care – at all – either way. But boy oh boy does it look familiar.”
As expected, Filipino fans still reacted with posts of apologies out of embarrassment for the seemingly blatant resemblance of the show to American television series “Arrow.” Many netizens who saw Amell’s post felt embarrassed over what they said was a “ripoff” of the popular series.
Maria Anngria Hall: “Yes it does!! I will let you know when I see the pilot!! 😊”
Yvette de la Vega: “Unfortunately, The Philippines does not really have copyright infringement laws which is embarrassing to me as a Filipino American”
Yael Osorio: “Do you really think changing the plotline would make it different? The whole concept’s the same. And you don’t even have to analyze it for yourself if it really is a copycat of Arrow, look at the reaction of the fans.”
Some others defended the Kapuso drama.
AJ Salazar: “Robin Hood has had different reincarnations or versions in different countries. In Russia, there’s the short novel on Alexander Pushkin whose Robin Hood character went by the name Black Eagle. In Brazil, there’s the real life Limpaio, a true-life Robin Hood whose life is now a biography. In Japan, a Kabuki adaptation of Robin Hood was successfully mounted with the character of Nezumikozo as the name of the legendary hero. This is to name only a few. What we are now seeing here is a modern version of Robin Hood, an adaptation of a universal figure made inspirational and relevant to the Filipino audience.”
Jaylord Fox Dela Resma: “The Arrow itself is a rip off of the original ROBIN HOOD so what’s your point? Bitch?”
