Start-Up PH star Jeric Gonzales responded to critics who questioned his ability to play his role in the GMA adaptation of the hit Korean series.
Gonzales took on the role of Davidson, Dani’s (Bea Alonzo) leading man.
During the Special Watch Party with the Bay Area Start-Up community via Zoom on November 5, Gonzales revealed that he is aware of some people doubting his acting ability; he used it to motivate himself to do better.
He said, “… ang dami talagang doubters lalo na sa akin, dun sa role ko dito kay Davidson, But I took it as a constructive [criticism], kasi it gave me push talaga na ma-motivate na kaya ko ‘tong role na ‘to.”
With the help of his home network, he gained the confidence to play his part. He thanked GMA and the production for casting him in the role. He admitted he was initially unsure if he could do justice to the role, but he fell in love with the character and the story and decided to give it a shot.
Gonzales added, “I trusted myself. At first nangangapa pa, siyempre kung paano niya ginawa [Joo-hyuk], mahirap talaga. Pero nung, nakapa ko na siya as Jeric Gonzales na atake, so I gave my own flavor.”
Viewers can catch Start-Up PH every 8:50 p.m. on GMA Telebabad and at 11:00 p.m. on GTV.
On the other hand, Start-UP PH was lauded by the Korean producer of the original hit series.
