Just like the previous State of the Nation Addresses (SONA), Senator Nancy Binay’s gown drew flak on social media for her gown at President Rodrido Duterte’s very first SONA.
Compared to the previous SONAs, Duterte administration takes a simpler route with the implementation of a new dress code. Malacañang has reminded legislators and guests to wear business attire in the SONA instead of long gowns and suits.

Sen. Binay wore wore a terno during the opening of the Senate session and changed into a stylish black gown for the SONA proper and it became controversial as netizens found her dress and even her pouch in resemblance with cartoon characters, a leche flan, a black telescope fish, among others.
In 2014, Sen. Binay changed into the white Filipiniana dress designed by Randy Ortiz after being criticized for her first dress also designed by Ortiz. Last year, several criticisms were thrown at her after her photos wearing Ortiz’s creation circulated online.
