On Sunday (September 25), The Atom Araullo Specials looks into the stories of the missing and the long, often heartbreaking, journeys of their loved ones’ search for them.
Over the years, cases of missing persons have caught the public’s attention. Many were lucky enough to be found and reunited with their families. But sadly, some have ended up as crime victims while others remain missing.
Such is the case of six-year-old John Carlo. After following his father outside their house, John Carlo mysteriously vanished in Sta. Rosa, Laguna six years ago. His father, June Ric, had almost given up on seeing his son again. Until a few months ago, when he finally received the message he had long been waiting for. Will John Carlo be finally reunited with his family?
Meanwhile in Manila, Analiza has spent the last two months searching tirelessly for her five-year-old son, Ren Ren, who disappeared last July 15. Analiza told authorities that her son may have wandered out of their house while she was taking a nap. A closed circuit television camera (CCTV) footage showed Ren Ren following an unidentified man. Does the man have anything to do with the disappearance of the child?
Many missing cases involve children and women. The case of 22-year-old Jovelyn Galleno recently hit the headlines. In Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, she was spotted entering a mall for work last August 5. But Jovelyn was never seen again after this. Tragic news came when Jovelyn’s alleged skeletal remains were found near a ravine in Barangay Sta. Lourdes, Puerto Princesa City, more than two weeks after she went missing.
After going missing for two days, the body of 15-year-old biker Princess Marie Dumantay was found in a grassy area in Bustos, Bulacan last August 12. She had bruises and cigarette burns all over her body and was discovered face down.
On December 26, 2021, businessman Jaime Faramil Jr. and car sales agent Rodrigo Dueña left Naga City, Camarines Sur to buy a vehicle in Laguna. But since then, the two became unreachable. The following day, Rodrigo was found dead in Tayabas, Quezon while Jaime has yet to be found.
How are the various cases of missing persons in the country being dealt with by the authorities?
