On August 2, Kapuso singer Garrett Bolden revealed why he changed his hairstyle.
The Kapuso singer had a virtual meeting with select members of the entertainment press, including LionhearTV, and recounted how he landed the role of John Thomas in Miss Saigon.
Bolden said he removed his braids for the GMA Thanksgiving Gala.
“Actually, since po ng GMA Gala, I removed my braids po and then– from there on, I going to– because I don’t know what plans they have for my hair. Pero, for sure po, hindi ko ipapagupit. Pero, I removed my braids in the meantime.”
He explained that he wanted to abide by the old-Hollywood black and white theme of the Kapuso event.
“Since it’s old Hollywood, on that night, I decided to take off my braids, and I did a little–sleek ponytail with my real hair, na medyo inistraight ko, which I did myself, also the make-up and all. I did it all by myself.”
When asked if maintaining his long hairstyle would affect his upcoming performance in the theater production of Miss Saigon in Guam, Bolden cited his research about the role and the actors who once portrayed John Thomas.
“There was this one version of Miss Saigon, which is one of the pinapanood ko pong version is ‘yung gumanap din po ng John has braids. Naka-braids po siya, pero it depends po.”
Bolden became one of the Kapuso Balladeers after landing a spot in the finals of GMA Network’s The Clash Season 1. After that, he started performing at Kapuso Network’s All-Out Sundays.
