On Tuesday, August 2, Marco Gumabao insisted that he would remain a good friend to Kylie Verzosa despite their undeniable good chemistry as a couple onscreen. The two stars are single as of this moment.
Verzosa broke with actor Jake Cuenca, and the press noticed the possibility that her relationship with Gumabao might reach a new level. But the latter insisted they’re friends and intend to remain that way.
“Kami ni Kylie, it’s like the sixth or seventh project that we have worked together. I think out of those six or seven, more than half, mag-ex rin kami sa mga projects namin. So kumbaga, hindi pa nagiging kami, mag-ex na agad kami, pinangunahan na agad kami ng mga projects namin.
“Kidding aside, kami ni Kylie, we formed a friendship and a bond. I mean, sobrang close namin ni Kylie and career muna siyempre. Importante ang career,” he explained during the press conference for their movie Baby Boy, Baby Girl.
Moreover, like Verzosa, he is solely focused on his career—his schedule for this year alone does not give him the leeway to date anyone.
“Ako naman kilala n’yo naman ako. Mas more on trabaho ako eh. Sa totoo lang wala na akong oras sa lovelife. Wala ng oras kasi kakagaling ko lang from Singapore, almost two months akong nawala.
“Tapos pagbalik ko dito, dapat straight to shoot kami nito eh. Pero humingi ako ng two weeks na break para makapagpahinga ako ng kaunti.
“So next week, shoot na kami. Tapos pagbalik ko from locked-in, may shoot na naman akong bago. Pagbalik ko from that locked-in, US naman ako, kasal ng sister ko. Tapos pagbalik ko dito, may isang ikakasal ko naman na pinsan.”
To stop the press from further insisting that he and Verzosa look good together, Gumabao pointed out that they could have been an item if, in the beginning, they were destined to be with each other.
“Oh my God, hahaha. Ewan ko. Ang tagal na naming friends ni Kylie eh. Kung mayroon man, dapat noon pa. Basta kami, we’re just gonna do the project first and properly at the same time. ‘Yun muna. Sa project na muna tayo mag-focus.”
