Filmmaker Theodore Boborol admitted on Thursday, July 22, is pressured knowing that the movie Connected is the first film produced by Star Magic Studios.
Apart from being a first, he also directed a newbie cast in Andi Abaya, Kobie Brown, Gail Banawis, Ralph Malibunas, Amanda Zamora, Chico Alicaya, and Richard Juan.
In an exclusive interview with LionhearTV, Boborol said, “Of course, there’s always pressure. Kasi sa’yo ipinagkatiwala ang first project ng Star Magic Studios.”
Moreover, the current pandemic and the loss of ABS-CBN’s franchise added to the pressure.
“Alam naman natin na mahirap nang gumawa ng pelikula ngayon. Even Star Cinema hindi na sila ganoon ka-active. Kasi hindi pa talaga bumabalik ang mga tao sa sinehan.
“Kaya nga tayo ngayon ay online muna at digital muna, lalo pa at walang network din ang ABS-CBN. Ang hirap maghanap ng pondo. So dapat maging successful ka sa bawat project mo.”
But the director believed that Connected is not meant to be a blockbuster. According to him, the movie’s success will be measured by how many producers will ask about his talents.
“I really believe na ginawa nila ito para ito ‘yung mga “real” na future stars para makuha ng ibang mga producers. So ime-measure ko ang success ng Connected, if after this movie, ‘yung mga producers will start to inquire about my actors.”
Connected tells the story of how people find love and connection in life. It will premiere on July 22 and will be available for streaming via KTX, iWantTFC, TFC IPTV Video on Demand, and Sky Cable pay-per-view.
