US-based Filipino businessman Tommie Mopia is this year’s recipient of Gawad Amerika’s Outstanding Young Entrepreneur Award 2022.
He is behind a healthcare business that kicked off in 2016. Grateful for and honored by the recognition, Mopia had this to say, “This award means a lot to me. My heart is full and grateful for being recognized for my work and contribution to the Filipino-American community in the US. This gives me inspiration to pursue more.”
To date, Tommie’s business has expanded to two more hospice agencies. He has recently acquired home health agency that taps hundreds of medical professionals like doctors, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, and others.
In 2018, the Gawad Amerika 2022 recipient founded the TGM Group of Companies, Inc. TGM takes on a different path as it manages and produces concerts for Filipino and international artists.
Mopia quipped, “I am one of the youngest executive producers and co-producers to do live concerts all over Southern California, Las Vegas, and Hawaii. I have worked with artists like, Jake Zyrus, Jed Madela, Lani Misalucha, Nonoy Zuñiga, etc.”
“Successful entrepreneurs always give 110% of their efforts to everything they do in their chosen field of business,” the awarded businessman offered his thoughts on success
“If you know you are giving your best, you’ll never have any reason for regrets. Focus on things you can control. Stay focused on your efforts and let the results be your judge. Put yourself in the place of your client. You will know if you’re happy with the work that you do and if you have given your best.” He put emphasis on putting a premium on excellence.
At such a young age, Mopia is living the life a lot of people aspire for. Armed with experience and business know-how, he has conquered the health care industry. His true power is backed by the fact that he’s surrounded by family and friends who support and believe in him. To young entrepreneurs, he would say, “Live the life of your dreams. Don’t stop dreaming. Chase the dream until you get it. Obstacles, doubters, mistakes, and setbacks are expected along the way.” Mopia wishes to remind those on the same track that there is no limit to what one can achieve with hard work, perseverance, and personal drive. Success, he said, is the best revenge for the naysayers.
He also added, “Prove them wrong by setting and achieving high standards for your business. Believe in yourself. You are braver than you think, more talented than you know, and capable more than you imagine. Only those who attempt the absurd can achieve impossible.
Mopia is an Aklan native who left for the United States 13 years ago. A lot has happened since he crossed over to the other side of the globe through his mother’s petition in 2009. After more than a decade of adjusting, adapting, and exploring abroad, our proud kababayan has TGM Group of Companies Inc., St. Anthony Hospice, CB Hospice, Tram Hospice, Quad Care Hospice, and Comprehensive Healthcare Services under his belt. In these acquisitions, he takes so much pride, especially as an immigrant.
“Being Filipino-American living in Los Angeles, I am part of one of the minorities. There is a constant need for me to prove what I can offer,” Mopia admitted. With Asian hate cases rising, he added, “I strive to pave the way for others to respect and acknowledge our presence. If the majority sees that you are contributing to the workforce, shaping their economy by boosting job placements and work opportunity, that means a lot.” He reminded that one should contribute to society, assert presence, cooperate with others and just spread kindness.
“Know how you can help the community, give resources to them regardless of skin color, age, sexuality, and religion. Be that highway that connects every one leading to a better working community,” Mopia smilingly ended.
