On July 5, seasoned actress Jaclyn Jose said she abstains from terrifying young sexy stars.
During the media conference for her upcoming Vivamax film Tahan, Jose connected her own experience when she started in showbiz to the new artists of today.
“Mayroon kasi sila na tag sa akin na nakakatakot eh, so we don’t like that, we don’t like that. Pumasok tayo sa trabaho– palagi kong sinasabi na I was once there di ba.”
She also recalled her experience of feeling terrified by a seasoned actress when she was young.
“Noong panahon namin, pag big star ‘yung sexy stars nang-aano, nanakot ng baguhan so as much as possible sisindakin ka talaga. Talagang you know they will look from head to toe, kasi it happened to me na.
“Buti na lang, I’m very focused actor na — and one good thing happened to me, puro mga projects ko puro mga Brocka, Bernal, Ronio, you know, so I was in good hands. Hindi ko pinapansin, pero I can tell naninindak sila, and hindi ko gagawin ‘yun sa mga bago.”
She then discussed the importance of making new artists feel comfortable on set for the future of Philippine cinema.
“Nagsimula ako sa baguhan– nagsimula ako ng bago so hindi natin sisindakin ‘yung mga bago kasi sila ang next generation eh na pwedeng magpatuloy ng industriya eh. So ang gagawin natin, papagaanin natin ang loob nila para makapagtrabaho sila ng mahusay.
“Kasi kung sisindakin mo sila anong magagawa, so you be nice to them because they are the future of this industry. So kung sinong matira sa kanila, sila ang magpapatuloy.”
She also stated that she prefers being a positive influence on young artists instead of hindering them.
“So in my part I want to be as positive as I can be, kasi marami na tayong pinagdaanan, alam natin na dati ‘to ganito ‘to, ngayon star na, you just have to give them a chance and wag kang maging hindrance doon sa kanilang pag sikat, or kung ano man ang pwede nilang puntahan.”
Jose then reiterated her vow to help new artists to further the Philippine showbiz industry.
“Ang una ko sa storycon, let us be nice and work. Wala tayong takutan dito.
“Lahat ng baguhan, I will help, kasi I was once there, galing tayo diyan, so hindi tayo ‘yung tipo ng artista na kung ano man ‘yung narating natin eh magiging madamot na tayo sa next generation to further this industry.”
As for her upcoming movie, Jose stars in the Vivamax psycho-thriller Tahan alongside Cloe Barreto and JC Santos.
Directed by Bobby Bonifacio and written by Quinn Carillo, Tahan premieres on July 22 via Vivamax.
