Sharon Cuneta disproved claims that Vice President and Presidential aspirant Leni Robredo will ‘again’ cheat this election.
Recently, in a campaign video, Robredo’s rival and dictator’s son Ferdinand Marcos Jr. advised the public to ‘protect’ their votes and not let anyone deceive them.
“Protektahan po natin ang ating naging desisyon at ‘wag po nating hayaang ito’y muling nakawin sa atin,” Marcos mentioned.
He did not mention any names to direct his claims, but it is known to everyone that Marcos questioned the Vice Presidential elections results in 2016, when he lost against Robredo. However, the Supreme Court eventually junked the electoral protest that he filed.
With this, Marcos supporters had a mindset that Robredo cheated and that there will be a possibility that she will ‘again’ cheat in the elections.
Cuneta addressed these allegations during the Bicol rally on May 6, by pointing out that Robredo does not have the power or authority to do such a malicious act. She then retaliated against the claim and said that Marcos has more chances to cheat because he is backed by President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Una sa lahat, nakakahiya naman, kasi, ‘COMELEC commissioners are Duterte appointees.'”
Months ago, acting presidential spokesperson Martin Andanar confirmed that Duterte appointed two new commissioners of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and one of them is veteran election lawyer George Garcia, who represented Marcos during his electoral protest in 2016.
Cuneta also pointed out that F2 Logistics, the official logistics partner of COMELEC, is owned by Dennis Uy, a Davao-based businessman.
“F2 Logistics is linked to Duterte associate, Dennis Uy.”
Uy is a close friend of Duterte and was one of the biggest sponsors of his presidential bid in 2016.
F2 Logistics managed the distribution of ballots, vote-counting machines, and other equipment for the election.
“Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi led PDP Laban faction and endorsed Marcos Jr.,” Cuneta added.
One of the claims in 2016 is that Robredo led the Vice Presidential race after a brownout happened while votes were being counted. However, PPRCV board trustee Arwin Serrano told VERA Files, “No brownout or blackout, I was there at the command center. Mayroong mga brownout in some of the areas nationwide pero different time ‘yon.”
Moreover, Cuneta also pointed out that, “Imee Marcos is chair of the senate committee on electoral reforms.”
Election watchdog Kontra Daya previously urged Imee to resign as the committee chair due to a possible “conflict of interest” since her brother is running for President. However, Imee refused to do so yet assured that she would maintain fairness in the coming elections.
“Palagay ko wala namang conflict of interest dahil wala namang kandidato na gusto madaya. Lahat ng botante gusto ng fair and free election so I think with that, makikita natin na trabaho lang to and we’re trying to work really hard,” Imee said.
With these facts, Cuneta believes that Robredo will have no chance to cheat and will never resort to that act just to win.
“Noong nanalong si Ma’am Leni ng VP, paki-explain sa akin, paano siya nandaya? Wala siyang support ng pangulo, walang nanalo sa Otso Diretso, bakit siya nanalo—nandaya siya, paano?
“Walang koneksyon at wala sa dugo niya ang daya. Hindi kailangan, kung ayaw siya, ayaw siya, pero kitang-kita natin ang pagmamahal ng buong bansa kay Ma’am Leni,” Cuneta said.
