The YouTube sensation recently aired his sentiment over the unfollowing of some of his supporters on his facebook after declaring his support for the defeated 2016 vice presidentiable Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr.
Like his fellow YouTube sensation Katrina Velarde, The Voice of the Philippines alumnus Yap was not able to escape the ire of some of his followers who did not like his political stance.
The member of the vocal group BuDaKhel revealed in a facebook post that he also lost followers after he shared the news about his participation in the recently-held UniTeam Festival Rally in Cebu.
“Sa mga nag-unfollow sa akin dahil sa pagpost ko ng aking suporta sa UniTeam. Salamat pa rin po sa inyong lahat. Naging part pa rin po kayo ng journey ko. No matter what, nirerespeto ko pa kayo (To everyone who unfollowed me, after I posted my statement of support for UniTeam. You still became a part of my journey. I respect all of you, no matter what),” he wrote.
He also gave appreciation to all his followers with different political views but remained subscribed to his page.
“Sa mga nananatili namang sumusuporta sa akin kahit na magkaiba tayo ng pananaw sa pulitika, higit akong nagpapasalamat sa respeto at unconditional ninyong pagtanggap at suporta sa akin (And to those who still support me regardless the difference in our political views, I am more grateful for your continuing support and respect0.”
It can be recalled that Katrina Velarde posted a similar appreciation post on her facebook page, after losing a thousand followers. Velarde has since earned more than 200,000 new followers after her admission.
Does Ong hope to get the same result by informing the followers he also suffered Velarde’s fate?
Ong finally thanked his followers whose political beliefs are aligned with his. “sa mga kapwa kong pinaniniwalaan at kapwa sumusuporta sa Uniteam, ako po ay lubusang nagpapasalamat sa ating pagkakaisa (To all my fellow Uniteam believers, I thank each one of you for our continuing unity).”
Celebrities who have aired their support for UniTeam have been consistently criticized for allegedly sending a problematic picture of “unity”.
UniTeam is notably composed and supported by some of the convicted plunderers and infamous personalities in Philippine politics.
