After the Iconic concert’s press conference on Monday, April 18, Megastar Sharon Cuneta commented that presidential candidate Isko Moreno had been a traditional politician or a ‘trapo’ for a long time.
This was her response after being asked about the controversial statement of Moreno, who urged Vice President Leni Robredo to withdraw from running for president during a joint presscon on Sunday, April 17.
Cuneta admitted that she admired Moreno from the start of his political career because he came from a low-income family. But she noticed that he became a ‘trapo’ as the years went by.
“When he was starting, I had a little pride in me of him dahil sa istorya ng buhay niya,” she said.
“But frankly, as the years went by parang nakikita mo yung signs ng pagka-traditional politician,” Cuneta added.
Moreno gained the ire of many people after asking Robredo to withdraw from her candidacy.
A traditional politician or ‘trapo’ describes politicians who make big promises during the elections but fail to do them.
“These traditional politicians know how to prioritize electoral gains and the best way to get them, according to the old-age playbook, is to maximize visibility even before the campaign period starts. This includes fast-tracking construction projects and building infrastructure that are not intended for the long term but would otherwise remind voters whose names should go on the ballot,” the Manila Collegian wrote in an article in September 2021.
