While a contender’s dream to earn the golden microphone was not realized today, April 18, his dream of giving his wife-to-be a decent wedding has gone just one step to being a reality, with the help of Vice Ganda.
The day did not end completely gloomy for Mac Kelly Bongat, when he failed to become the daily winner, as he still ended up having his dream wedding for his wife-to-be, half-realized. Bongat was one of the three daily contenders of the singing contest, whose first quarter-finals concluded just last Wednesday, April 13.
During the “kuwentuhan” portion of the singing contest, where the hosts shared conversations with the daily contestants, Bongat revealed his struggles during the pandemic, including shelling a big amount of money for his partner’s caesarian section operation. He mentioned that he and his partner were unable to prioritize getting married, as the latter’s operation cost them a lot.

Vice Ganda briefly chided Mac Kelly for apparently not having the foresight of their future priorities when he and his partner decided to be in a relationship, and eventually have a child.
“Hindi aksidente ‘yun! Ginusto mo ‘yun! (It surely wasn’t an accident. You allowed that to happen,)” the comedian-host jokingly rebuked Bongat who initially reasoned out that his partner getting pregnant was not one of his plans.

Vice Ganda then proceeded to sharing some words about safe sex. ‘Bakit kasi ka’yo hindi nag-condom? Sa panahon ngayon dapat pinag-uusapan—let’s normalize about these things, dahil, hello…di ba? It’s 2022 (Why did you not use condom, in the first place? These discussions should no longer be a taboo—let’s normalize these things, especially that it’s already 2022)” he reminded the viewers.
When Ogie Alcasid, who was then among the “hurados” or judges of the day, asked when Mac Kelly intends to pursue his dream wedding for his wife, he replied: “Pag may budget na ‘po (Once we’ve gathered enough fund)”. It’s an answer that prompted Vice Ganda to asking “Magkano ba budget na kailangan mo? (How much do you think your wedding will cost?)”
“Mga 100,000 po (Maybe, around 100,000 pesos),” he answered. Vice Ganda initially did not show a willingness to help Bongat make his dream wedding come true. But when Alcasid finished his comment on Bongat’s performance, the Unkabogable star informed the contestant of what he planned to do.
“Heto…para siguradong maganda ang asawa mo, ako magpapagawa ng wedding gown ng asawa mo (To make sure that your wife is at her prettiest on her wedding day, I’ll be the one to buy her a wedding dress),” he pledged, which made Bongat beam with gratefulness.
“Thank you po…” he said several times. The wedding gown, however, isn’t the last help the comedian-host was willing to extend, as he also offered to shoulder half of the PhP100,000 that Bongat estimated his wedding to cost.
“Pero hindi naman masusuot ‘yung wedding gown kung walang wedding…’yung PhP100,000, kasya ‘yun sa’yo (But a wedding gown is useless if there is no wedding…That PhP100,000, do you think will suffice)?” he asked, which Bongat answered with a “yes.”
“Para maganda sa kalooban mo, maghati tayo. Pagtrabahuhan mo ‘yung PhP50,000, bibigyan kita ng kalahati. Para naman may pride ka na…itong kasal na ito hindi naman ito free, pinagtrabahuhan ko rin ito. Regalo ko ito sa asawa ko (Just to make it easier, I’ll share expenses with you. Work for the PhP50,000, then I’ll provide the remaining PhP50,000.Let’s share the expenses, so that you can still say to yourself that you still work for this wedding, too. That it’s your gift to your wife)” he promised, which made Bongat well in tears.
Bongat informed Vice Ganda that he intends to hold the wedding as soon as possible. Vice Ganda, however, advised the contestant to set a target date, so that he will know how much work he has to do to meet his goal.
