The first P-Pop group in the Philippine MNL48 on Wednesday, April 6, was glad that they are not the only ones trying to make Pinoy Pop known across the globe.
Member Jemimah Caldejon recalled that they felt “lonely” as the sole P-Pop group in the country.
“We feel like we don’t have anybody, na parang kapag may nang bash sa amin, parang wala kaming kasama. Parang kami lang,” she said during the virtual media conference for their latest single No Way Man.
MNL48 was launched in 2018 as a sister group of the Japanese idol group AKB48. As the popularity of Pinoy Pop continued to rise, it made them feel happy that they were no longer alone.
“Ngayon na maraming P-Pop groups na umusbong, sobrang happy talaga. It sounds so cliche, but we’re so happy, we’re so proud na hindi na lang kami, marami na kami. So if mayroon man sa aming aatake na kung sino man diyan, well, marami na kami kakampi, kasangga,” continued Caldejon.
The group is also open to collaboration and does not consider other P-Pop groups as competition.
“Yes po, of course! Why not? We’re all sisters naman po and we have one goal: P-Pop pride.”
No Way Man is the latest single of MNL48 when they released River in 2020. The song is currently available on all digital streaming platforms.
