For the second year in a row, GMA Network was chosen as the “TV Station of the Year” by the Guild of Educators, Mentors, and Students (GEMS).
Several Kapuso programs and personalities were also recognized at the 6th Hiyas ng Sining Awards held virtually on March 10.
Multi-awarded comedian and content creator Michael V. was conferred the “Natatanging Hiyas ng Sining sa Telebisyon (Highest Honors for TV)” for his exemplary contribution to the industry as actor, director, and writer.
Flagship newscast 24 Oras remains the top choice for news content as it took home the “Best News Program.” One of its anchors, GMA News pillar Mel Tiangco, was conferred the “Best Newscaster (Male or Female)” award.
For its powerful and eye-opening documentaries, The Atom Araullo Specials won as this year’s “Best TV Program-Opinion/Documentary.” Its host, Atom Araullo, was in turn chosen as “Best TV Program Host (Male or Female – Opinion/Documentary).”
GMA Network’s original musical competition The Clash was recognized as the “Best TV Program – Reality/Talent Search.”
Asia’s Multimedia Star Alden Richards was awarded the “Best Performance in a Lead Role (Male or Female – TV Series)” for his remarkable performance in the compelling primetime series “The World Between Us.”
Winning the “Best Performance in a Lead Role (Male or Female – Single Performance)” award was Aiko Melendez for the Tadhana episode “Dalawa ang Aking Ina.”
Kapuso stars shone brightly in the film category, too.
Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes received the “Best Performance in a Lead Role (Male)” award for the film “A Hard Day.”
Highly-acclaimed actress Jaclyn Jose, in turn, won “Best Performance in a Supporting Role (Female)” for “The Housemaid.”
The GEMS – Hiyas ng Sining Awards honors different shows and personalities for their contribution in the fields of writing, theater, radio, television, and music.
