“Badjao Girl” Rita Gaviola proved that she has the wits aside from her alluring beauty as she was crowned the “Showtime Sexy Babe” daily winner last Thursday (Feb.17).
The 18-year-old former PBB Teens housemate revealed to the “It’s Showtime hosts that she joined the segment to highlight indigenous people’s abilities.
“I wanted the people to understand what a Badjao is capable of and to be proud of my tribe. I also wanted to dispel other people’s misconceptions about our tribe.” she said.
Rita, who rose to fame after her beautiful photo went viral, shared that some Badjao girls of her age are afraid of getting seen in public because of the discrimination they experienced.
“Many attractive teenagers like me tend to stay in their houses because they are insecure about themselves. They question their appearance, especially their skin color. People think we are poor because we don’t share the same skin color. I want to end people’s prejudice against my tribe,” she explained.
Rita also told Vice Ganda, Vhong Navarro, and Ogie Alcasid about her journey after joining the reality competition.
“After my ‘PBB’ stint, I returned to school. I then realized that I could juggle my studies and work so that I won’t need to ask for money from my parents,” she said.
Aside from joining “Showtime Sexy Babe,” Rita also expressed her dreams of joining Miss Universe someday.
In the end, Rita won the hearts of the Sexy Authoriteam Ruffa Gutierrez, Chie Filomeno, and RK Bagatsing as she garnered a total combined score of 94.7% to become the “Showtime Sexy Babe” daily winner and return on Saturday for the weekly finals.
