Why You Should See It:
Broken hearts and tormented souls are the main attraction in this Noreen Capili drama where Angelica Panganiban’s incredible dramatic prowess, takes center stage. After playing the loud and vulgar Dr. Kara Teo in the recently-concluded web series, The Kangks Show, Panganiban is back; this time, she is the bruised but hopeful, Yanna.
Yanna is about to get promoted to a senior executive position at the company she works for, when her husband of seven years, played by RK Bagatsing, suddenly bids her farewell to follow the love of her life in Australia. Devastated, she quits her job and tries to find solace in getting wasted. One night, she unknowingly goes on an FB live, where she unloads all her pain and frustrations after her husband left him. The video went viral and she suddenly finds herself providing love advice for girls with similar relationship woes.
She catches the attention of a publisher (JC de Vera) who later on convinces her to write a book featuring her love advice.
The Goodbye Girl works out in a ‘girl of the week’ scheme, with a new girl being focused on, in every episode, although Panganiban is poised to be a perpetual presence as her love advice will be crucial in each featured girl’ love story. Panganiban does not surprise by pulling off this role, with such ease and depth. As Yanna, her devastation is very clear, but it’s also hard to miss her compelling restraint to deliver the nuances of her character. She is emotionally articulate when she abruptly plunges into the tragedy of her relationship, and she projects a hopeful, heartwarming aura when she decides to move forward.
In the succeeding episodes, characters played by beautiful Kapamilya actresses Barbie Imperial, Loisa Andalio, Elisse Joson, and Maris Racal, and their individual stories of heartache are set to merge with that of Yanna. It will be interesting to know how much change Yanna will impart to these girls’ lives, or will it be the other way around?
