On Wednesday, February 2, musician Rico Blanco during the virtual media conference of the upcoming iWantTFC limited series The Goodbye Girl admitted he has now reached maturity as an entertainer.
“I think, firstly, before I wanted lang people to focus on the project. Parang ayoko lang na iba yung pinag-uusapan kasi nahihiya ako sa nag-organize ng presscon, sa producer ng show, tapos iba yung pag-uusapan,” he said.
Blanco continued, “But now, I think I’m a little more mature. I know how it works, I know about views and eyeballs. Kasi nag-mature na rin ako sa industry eh. Dati kasi I was just a guy in a band, and we don’t know how the bigger picture works. So we were very protective of our art, our image, and all of that. I guess it comes with maturity din ‘di ba?”
Furthermore, the former Rivermaya vocalist pointed out that having a relatively long career in the industry made him reach the pinnacle of being more open about his private life.
“I guess siguro kasama na rin yung meron na akong… at peace na ako sa na-achieve ko all these years. So parang hindi na akong masiyadong takot to put myself out there for who and what I really am.”
Meanwhile, the series also marks his return to acting.
The singer also shared the difference between acting from making music, which is the script.
According to Blanco, he had doubts whether he could memorize his lines as an artist or not.
“The preparation for me was just really… kasi hindi ko na alam kung kaya ko pang mag-memorize ng lines kasi matagal na akong nag-memorize. Sabi ko kahit mga kanta ko hindi ko na memorized eh,” admitted the singer.
Apparently, he realized that having been hands-on in creating and producing music videos has given him the confidence that helped him during the taping of The Goodbye Girl.
“Madali naman bumalik, bumalik naman pala. Ako lang, hindi lang ako sure. But then noong pagdating do’n, ‘ay masaya pala.’
“Especially in the recent years na mas nag-behind the scenes ako sa music videos, sa production, feeling ko na-relaxed na ako kapag sinabing action, kapag nagro-roll na yung tape. Dati kasi may kaunting adrenaline nagli-leap kapag sinabing game na eh.
“Ngayon parang dahil naging part ako heavily nang behind the scenes, wala na siyang… hindi na siya nagpapakaba.”
The Goodbye Girl is based on the book of Noreen Capili. It is directed by Derick Cabrido, with Dreamscape Entertainment and Clever Minds co-producing.
The series is led by Angelica Panganiban and JC de Vera. It also stars Blancos girlfriend Maris Racal, Loisa Andalio, Barbie Imperial, Elisse Joson, RK Bagatsing, Joshua Colet, Ronnie Alonte, and Turs Daza.
