Meet the new Dunkin’ PH brand ambassador—South Korean heartthrob Kim Soo Hyun.
Kim Soohyun is one of the most bankable and sought-after K-drama stars. In 2020, Soo Hyun was named the year’s highest-paid actor, for his role in It’s Okay to Not Be Okay. His newest K-drama One Ordinary Day premiered on November 27, 2021, and cemented his position as the industry’s top earner with a fee of 600,000 USD (500 million KRW) per episode of the Coupang Play/Viu drama.
Soo Hyun has always been popular, as proven by his iconic appearances in Dream High, Moon Embracing the Sun (for which he won the Best Actor – Television trophy at the 48th Baeksang Arts Awards in 2012), and My Love From the Star. But his value skyrocketed after he was discharged from the military in 2019.
At the moment, his agency Gold Medalist Entertainment is preparing to produce a digital avatar of the actor. This project is part of the agency’s plan to embrace the evolution of the industry, as Soo Hyun’s avatar will be used in things like advertisements and films in the future.
The real Soo Hyun is earning a lot of praise for his performance in One Ordinary Day. Helmed by director Lee Myung Woo, this K-drama is about a college student who becomes the prime suspect in a grisly murder. At first, no one wants to help Soo Hyun’s character prove his innocence, but eventually a lawyer played by veteran actor Cha Seung Won steps up to the challenge.
Soo Hyun’s earnestness and determination to do well are just two of the reasons for his popularity. People love him so much that when he’s tapped to endorse something, that product practically flies off the shelves. He’s known as the “King of CFs” (commercial films) in South Korea. Soo Hyun once worked with 36 top international brands at the same time. Dunkin’ PH is the latest one to link up with this in-demand oppa.
He chose to partner with Dunkin’ PH because of the brand’s image—Soo Hyun considered it to be a perfect fit for his own polite and well-rounded public persona—and because it was one of his go-to places growing up. In fact, Soo Hyun personally recommended that the brand launch its new heart-shaped Ube colored Donut—the UBAE Donut, set to be launched nationwide by Dunkin’ PH this week.
As part of their deal, Soo Hyun is planning to visit Manila soon. His Filipino fans are in for a fresh and innovative whole year round campaign, starting off with Digital and TV commercials featuring their idol, as well as cool new merchandise and exciting promos.
