It was speculated that ABS-CBN is planning to bring back Magandang Gabi Bayan on TV in 2022.
Magandang Gabi Bayan is one of the iconic programs of ABS-CBN. It was a Philippine news magazine program that premiered on August 21, 1988, and ended on December 31, 2005.
It was named after the signature opening and closing spiel of Noli de Castro.
The program aims to expose the illegalities of some Philippine government officials as well as to render public service to the Filipinos. It continues to hold the title of the leading and longest public service program in the Philippines.
Many Filipinos and foreigners loved the program especially of its Halloween specials or Undás episodes. The re-enactments of paranormal incidents and the theatrics used for the Undas specials are often praised for the ominous ambiance.
When De Castro got elected as a senator in 2001 and got elected as Vice President of the Philippines in 2004, the program has got substitute hosts, which included Kat de Castro (De Castro’s daughter), Erwin Tulfo, and Henry Omaga-Diaz.
It is reported that De Castro will still serve as its host should it return on free TV.
De Castro recently anchored both his radio programs Kabayan and TeleRadyo Balita on TeleRadyo and TV Patrol.
He previously announced his intention to run as senator for the 2022 national elections, and on October 7, 2021, he took oath as a new member of Aksyon Demokratiko and made his last appearance on his programs. He filed his certificate of candidacy on October 8, but he eventually withdrew from the race.
He returned as the anchorman of DZMM, a radio station of ABS-CBN. Now that he has ended his stint in TV Patrol, it is most likely for him to host Magandang Gabi Bayan in its anticipated comeback.
