Rita Daniela and Ken Chan’s film Huling Ulan sa Tag-Araw made it to the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2021 official list of entries but the tandem did not bring home any major awards.
The two were in the run for the best actress and best actor awards for their film but failed to win an award.
During Noel Ferrer’s interview with Cristy Fermin on December 31, he revealed that Rita and Ken’s fandom are enraged because their idols did not win the award.
Ferrer is the Execom spokesperson of the MMFF.
“Tapos nagulat na lang na hindi sila nominated yung dalawa pero nanalo naman sa Best Theme song, at least hindi na-zero,” he said.
He then explained that even though Huling Ulan sa Tag-Araw is a great film, the artists still needed to work on themselves to fit into their character.
“’Nay iba naman kasi may mga kalaban din naman silang iba. Okay naman ‘Nay kaya lang sabi ko kung mapapanood ninyo ang mga pelikula, ‘yung mga artista, nagpapayat sila o nagpapataba, depende sa role na gagampanan
He also pointed that Rita Daniela’s role is a dying cancer patient but her body build is too healthy to be a terminally ill patient.
“Nay naman! Si Rita Daniela ay isang dying cancer patient. Sabi nga siya na yata ‘yung pinakamalusog na dying cancer patient. The physicality of their role, siguro effective ‘yan sa soap opera na hindi mo hahanapan ng [katotohanan],” said Ferrer.
Meanwhile, Rita Daniela is fine with being snubbed by the MMFF 2021 jury for her best actress award as long as her fans liked her film.
“Okay lang po yun, Kuya. Ang importante naman po, nagustuhan ng mga nakapanood,” she said in an interview with PEP on Tuesday, December 28, 2021.
